ECOCENTRIC FASHION

The fashion industry is one, which is supposed to set trends for a lot of other industries. Today’s fashion brands are slowly seen adopting sustainable practices, as the fashion industry has a massive environmental impact. Fashion designers as well as the critics have started keeping a track whether the clothes we wear are environment friendly.   Fashion is taken seriously by everybody and people have now started talking about it at a different level. Lot of people are ready to join the global environment concern to clench into the transformation towards sustainable fashion. It is not just about the use of natural elements while manufacturing, but till the end product is out. The sustainable fashion involves procedures marked by innovations that may be used for increasing the efficiency of processes.   A lot of consumers are also getting vegan and awareness about it is also seen at a rise. It is a new trend seen popping up. More and more vegan clothing retailers are seen online and also some of the existing retailers are offering up vegan alternatives to gothic leather jackets, walking boots and many more. People who were hardcore meat lovers have now started going vegan. This is not restricted to the food anymore; people are making it a part of their lifestyle. Hence, this includes the clothes as well as other accessories like bags, jewellery etc.   Due to this, it is observed that fashion enthusiasts are going at a different level completely that is why we will see more elements that are pure and driven by nature used in manufacturing the clothes.  There will be use of harmonious color palette, traditional artesian techniques usage that will be seen coming back in a strong way. Natural materials like banana fiber, malbari, bamboo, organic jute, organic linen, cotton, wool, silk, hemp, or linen are being given due importance.   It is important to come out of the digital world and think about fashion. There can be a lot of value added in the old world charm, traditional techniques in that era that was around 20- 25 years back. The artisan community around the world will get a lot of inspiration and encouragement if the fashion industry goes the eco – friendly way. The support these people will get will uplift the society in general. Not only the big brands, but the medium brands are also using a lot of methods to make themselves eco – friendly. Brands are following a lot of principles like becoming transparent and flexible in the work culture. Manufactures are sustainably sourcing out their raw material also not just the final product but also everything that goes in the product is eco- friendly. A lot of recycling, upcycling is done. Using a lot of natural dyes, avoiding chemicals is done at a large scale which means indirectly being socially responsible. Having an eco- friendly certificate is considered important now.   “Eco- centric fashion will be inspired by trends like neutral color plate, experimental salivates and more easy going wardrobes”, said aptly Ms Benita ViraSahani (Designer/Co-founder of Studio CASA 9).  She added, this is not just a fad for sure, it is definitely the future, and it will affect the masses in the long run for sure. In fact by 2020 it is said that 40 per cent of all consumers will be the youth so will be going all out for sustainable fashion a way of life.   Going for natural clothing is affordable and completely ethical if you know where to look for the same. The best thing is that a lot of brands are already using alternatives to leather, fur and wool. Not only the fashion designers but also the accessory designers are seen joining hands in this trend. Like shoes, jewellery is seen more in the form of paper, jute, wood, and linen is coming back in fashion. Getting back to basics is going to be the next fashion trend.

SKIN CARE REGIME DURING SUMMER : SHAHNAZ HUSAIN

We need to care for the skin according to the season. Cleansing is important during summer to remove dirt, sweat and oil deposits that cling to the skin. The summer sun and heat can lead to problems like sun tan, sun burn, rash, pimples and acne. Night time cleansing is a must, to remove impurities that have deposited on the skin during the day. Rinse with plenty of plain water. Skin fresheners play a crucial role. They restore the normal balances, keep the pores unclogged, stimulate blood circulation to the skin surface and add a glow. Keep a small bowl of rose water in the refrigerator. Dip cotton wool pads in it and wipe the skin several times a day. It refreshes the skin and closes the pores. Protect the skin from sun-effects by applying a broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 20 or 25. Apply it 20 minutes before sun-exposure.  A sunscreen gel is more suitable for oily skin. For oily skin, a clay pack is ideal. Fuller’s Earth can be mixed with rose water into a paste. Apply and wash off when it dries. It reduces oiliness and clarifies the skin. Try coconut water to tone and soothe the skin this summer. It also helps to remove tan and brighten the skin over a period of time. Apply on the skin and leave on for 20 to 30 minutes. Carry wet tissues in your handbag during the day, to cleanse, wipe, cool and refresh the skin. Then use compact powder.

RETROSPECTION METAMORPHOSIS REINVENTION BY RAHUL MISHRA

I grew up in the sleepy village of Malhausi, some 83 kms from Kanpur City. I set out in life armed with a degree in Physics. But, the scholastic facts that stimulated the mind of a young man, did not compare to the grandmothers’ stories that nourished the soul of a young boy. What was simply a delightful recreational activity in childhood, became a precious treasure trove of inspiration to deal with existential philosophies of adulthood. The artistic genesis of life, the spirituality in its pre-ordained symphony, the role of change in igniting its versatility – they all began to captivate me. This collection looks back on a decade-long journey, that began with the exploration of an important fact of life – metamorphosis. I didn’t consciously intend to make the concept a brand signature, when I launched ‘The Butterfly Effect’ back in 2010. Maybe, it has become one, because that first exploration was honest, straight from the heart; and steeped in the metamorphosis of the Artist from the Physicist. Since I’m learning something new every day, this metamorphosis is continuous – both within me and within the brand. I have tried my best to progressively build a crafts-based lineage that empowers the artisan. This lineage, at the heart of my brand DNA, is in turn a tribute to the universal DNA that has created a kaleidoscopic lineage of thriving life on this planet. In elevating the artisanal spirit and honouring the creative spark that gives it shape and form, I hope I am paying my dues to a beautiful life. Embroideries hold instinctive appeal for me. I feel the holy forces of creation become meditative, magical poetry in the way the artisan’s needle and thread moves through fabric. This celebratory collection would be incomplete without a tribute to embroideries. They have come alive through intelligent separates. The separates themselves have a strong aura of dynamism because of the interplay between architectural silhouettes, vibrant colours; as well as prints and motifs inspired by the unapologetic, unbridled beauty of Nature. My sacred relationship with metamorphic memories fuelled the shape-shifting level embroidery that defined my debut collection. Inspired by the tessellated prints of MC Escher’s woodcuts, these changing embroidery patterns seem to give the garment a life of its own. The depiction of life in motion remains to tell the tale of the hands that made them. As time passed, I found that the Physicist within me awoke from his deep slumber and produced the 2018 Spectral Forest Doppler dress. The Physicist-turned-Artist also metamorphosed into a Father. Growing up, I knew little of the world I saw and more of the world I imagined. I want my daughter Aarna to develop a fertile imagination too. I teach her how, through the only way I learned myself – spending time in Nature. Once, Aarna and I sat sketching in a village near Nainital. Bold blue hydrangeas of varying sizes and distinctive tints inspired me to create life-like renditions for the 2019 Spring/Summer collection. It took months of arduous research and development to achieve a refined surface. But, the hand-embroidered organza petals in shades of blue, appliquéd onto light fabrics and embellished with Swarovski crystals are a story in themselves, of  how the flawed perfection of the human hand can imitate and imbibe divine perfection. A private tour of Musée d’Orsay in 2016 brought me closer to the surrealist magic of Van Gogh. His ‘Sunflowers’ series reminded me of the flowers growing wild and free in Malhausi. The sweet nostalgia manifests itself in the diaphanous silk gown from Fall 2017-18 gracing the runway tonight. Many of the looks in this collection have never been showcased in India. They are reminiscent of the 10 Paris Fashion Week collections, that have given me the privilege of presenting the best of Indian handicrafts on an international platform. The collection includes a range of fabrics and techniques, from gossamer tulle and organza to plush velvets; and traditional aari work with resham threads, to French knots inspired by pointillism art. The idea is to combine Eastern mysticism with Western meticulousness and highlight the overlap; so as to demonstrate that the world shares common ideas of timeless intricacy and elegance in fashion. With the ‘Rahul Mishra in Retrospect’ essence of this collection, I wish to share with you a message that is very close to my heart – coming full circle and returning to the source is a celebration of our roots and a testament to our ever-evolving aesthetic. As Rumi once said, “Let the beauty of what you love be what you do.”

DECODE BY PAWAN SACHDEVA

As we call our collection “DECODE” which means to decipher, this collection as it moves towards the end breaks down into different styles and decode it completely. Decode as we term it is an infusion of asymmetrical cuts, belted garments and structured fits amalgamating with different prints diffusing into an array of color palette. The colors range from neon hues like orange, green and yellow. The color story includes a palette ranging from rust, brown to neon’s and blacks. It’s more of the colors that we see in and around. The collection begins as athleisure and ends towards formal structured garments keeping in mind the current demand of comfort and style.

Nikki Khanna is surely one of the God’s blessed children who merely at the age of 15 years has written the same number of books as well. With her first Book printed already, She has become the talk of the town. In words with brightest and youngest author-Nikki Khanna     About Yourself   I’m Nikki and I’m a writer of many romance novels, as well as a recently published author. I really enjoy writing, merely as a hobby as well as a career and I’m really interested in makeup as well but as of now I’m really just exploring my hobbies and enjoying my time doing what I like.   How Did The Booking Passion Started? It first started off just by reading loads of books which are similar to the ones I write, mainly focusing on the romance, YA novels, and seeing how I much I would enjoy reading those, I thought to try writing one and then another and eventually writing became something I do regularly and enjoy doing a lot.   Tell Us About Your Books And Synopsis Of Each? So, I have a lot of books, some of them include a book named Stuck In Paris which we recently got published. This book focuses on two very distant characters who go to Paris for a school trip and then blossom a romance from there on. I have another book named Perfect Strangers, which follows the storyline of two strangers meeting in a cafe and stirring up feelings for each other, and also a book named When in Rome which focuses on two strangers meeting in Rome and knowing each other from there.   Of All Your Books Which Is Your Favourite One ? One of my favourites is definitely Stuck In Paris because I came up with the idea while I was on vacation with my family there and that’s also one of my first books that got really popular with my readers, so it’s a little special.   Who Inspires You To Write? I read a lot of romance books myself, so definitely a lot of known authors such as Christina Lauren and Colleen Hoover. Both authors write romance novels and I take a lot of inspiration from them.   What Next Are You Writing On? I’m currently focusing on exploring different tropes within romance, so as of now I’m writing a book on royalty and a prince meets princess sort of romance. It’s a new field for me and I’m really excited to try it and see how my readers respond.   How Does It Feel To Be One Of The Youngest Authors Of India? It definitely feels great. I have been writing simply because it makes me happy and is a hobby, but knowing that what I do is appreciated and known by so many people definitely makes me feel proud of myself and keeps me motivated to continue.   Who Is Your Support System? It’s definitely my parents Mr. Anuj Khanna & Mrs. Suruchi Khanna. They are encouraging, when I first told my dad about my passion for Writing- He told me Power of Pen is the biggest power in the world. He advised me to use it wisely, and my mother encouraged me. They are my first readers and the reason for me to be able to publish my first book at the age of 15.   How Many Books Have You Written So Far? I have written about 15 books in total as of now which one can read on an app by the name of Wattpad. Few of my written books are Seven minutes in hell, The wedding in Miami, Saviour, What happens in Vegas, Addicted to you and more.
