Prachi Gandhi, Winner of Beauty &The Best Mrs.India 2021 (Classic)
Beauty Basics

Star of Delhi: Prachi Gandhi, Winner of Beauty &The Best Mrs.India 2021 (Classic)

‘Beauty is of no use without Brains’ Why should beauty pageants be restricted to unmarried girls alone? After marriage, it is only hearth and home, the girls were firmly told but the world is going through a metamorphosis and so are the women, their families and their mindsets. Husbands are becoming supportive of their wives’ dreams and families more encouraging. Getting married shouldn’t stop you from pursuing a dream or even a career in one’s chosen field. Prachi Gandhi, wife of Vicky Gandhi and mother of two, is one such woman. Beauty & Makeupreneur in itself, Prachi was recently crowned “Mrs. India Winner 2021″ (Classic ) by Beauty & The Best Magazine. Here’s the excerpts… How did you feel when you heard your name being announced as the winner? I had goose-bumps when it was announced to a packed audience that the winner is from Delhi. It feels great when people say I have made my city proud. It’s a victory for our National Capital, Delhi than a personal accreditation for myself. Tell us about yourself. Was it always your dream to win a beauty pageant? The tiara has always fascinated me. Since my childhood, I have been interested in fashion and won prizes in school and college in beauty contests. I got married at a very young age and then family responsibilities naturally and happily took precedence over my dream. Must have been challenging to balance family and education… I was only a plain graduate when I got married. It was challenging to balance studies, family and children but a supportive family made it all possible. Today whatever I have achieved in life, it is only because of the support of my husband. Who is your role model? I believe in having real-life role models who are closer to reality. My mother is my inspiration and role model. Even as a child, I was in awe with her commitment towards family. It’s amazing the way she balances between family, the outside world and her social responsibilities. For a woman, especially for a married woman, how important is it to have family support? There is no denying the fact that behind every successful woman, there is her entire family. Ditto for me. I am extremely fortunate to have a family who is very encouraging towards me. During the run up to the event, whenever I was in self-doubt, my husband Vicky was there to help me bounce back. Were they your critics, fine tuning your path to Mrs. India? My husband and children not only encouraged me at every step but also didn’t hesitate to give their two cents on what type of outfits look flattering on me and also helped me in preparing answers, in research for my presentation and in everything else that was important for the success. The most important was the stress-free atmosphere at home which kept away the pressure and allowed me to give my best. How did you prepare for the mega event? Those who think beauty queens walk the ramp and the tiara automatically sits on their head are living in a fantasy world. It requires hard work and perseverance. Beauty might be in-born but it is of utmost importance to polish the beauty both outside as well as inside. It was a rigorous preparation for almost a year. My day started with one hour of yoga early morning followed by being informed about current affairs. I attended grooming classes to help me face the contest confidently. I learnt how to maintain physical appearance, ramp walk, posture, and also the tips to face question-answer rounds with confidence. I had to regularly follow fashion updates. The contestants were asked to make a videos on walk, talk and social activities. Tremendous amount of research was made to make it prim & proper. What were the types of rounds one had to go through? There were four rounds in all — ethnic, casual, talent and cocktail round etc. There were 40 contestants from all over India. I was confident but also had an open mind. In a competition, there can be surprises. Beauty or Brain. Which is more important to win a beauty pageant? Beauty, of course, is primary in a beauty contest but brains are equally important. One obviously can’t be a dumb beauty. Intelligence comes into action to maintain the physical beauty, to carry oneself well, good communication skills and, of course, the overall confidence comes only with brains. If not for brains, there is no way beauty is of any use. What is your advice to beauty pageant aspirants? Hard work and dedication are very important for success in any field. Have a clear vision but work towards it. Just dreaming is not enough. One needs to take care of oneself which includes fitness, grooming and reading. Yes, it’s important to be aware of the world around you. Drink lots of water and have only fresh food. What are your future plans? Currently I am doing fashion shoot. I also plan to conduct workshops for aspiring women who want to participate in beauty pageants.

SKIN CARE REGIME DURING SUMMER : SHAHNAZ HUSAIN

We need to care for the skin according to the season. Cleansing is important during summer to remove dirt, sweat and oil deposits that cling to the skin. The summer sun and heat can lead to problems like sun tan, sun burn, rash, pimples and acne. Night time cleansing is a must, to remove impurities that have deposited on the skin during the day. Rinse with plenty of plain water. Skin fresheners play a crucial role. They restore the normal balances, keep the pores unclogged, stimulate blood circulation to the skin surface and add a glow. Keep a small bowl of rose water in the refrigerator. Dip cotton wool pads in it and wipe the skin several times a day. It refreshes the skin and closes the pores. Protect the skin from sun-effects by applying a broad-spectrum sunscreen of SPF 20 or 25. Apply it 20 minutes before sun-exposure.  A sunscreen gel is more suitable for oily skin. For oily skin, a clay pack is ideal. Fuller’s Earth can be mixed with rose water into a paste. Apply and wash off when it dries. It reduces oiliness and clarifies the skin. Try coconut water to tone and soothe the skin this summer. It also helps to remove tan and brighten the skin over a period of time. Apply on the skin and leave on for 20 to 30 minutes. Carry wet tissues in your handbag during the day, to cleanse, wipe, cool and refresh the skin. Then use compact powder.

THE NEW AGE CELEBRITY MAKEUP EXPERT:PRIYANKA GUPTA

“I love the confidence that makeup gives me.” ― Priyanka Gupta   Makeup was one of those things that were kind of always in the back of Priyanka’s mind! When she was younger, she was obsessed with makeup! She couldn’t wait to head down to the drugstore to buy the newest eye shadow and lip stick. Only thing was, she never really realized she could actually have a career in beauty, but being a small town girl it’s a difficult task for her to follow my passion for makeup. So, once she got her first taste of makeup by getting appreciation from friends and family, she was hooked.   That’s why she always tells people to follow their passion, because if you follow your passion then your work becomes your hobby.   She had done her makeup designing course under the guidance of Baba Meru from Pune for six months, and after that she had joined Meenakshi Dutt for another six months. When she was studying she has started getting calls for makeup and bookings.   At that time she was alone and can’t do everything and go everywhere by herself. So she has started her first salon ‘Brides’ in Punjabi Bagh. Then she had opened her second salon ‘Headlooks Unisex Salon’ in Janakpuri. After opening salon she can handle as many clients as she can.   In makeup she do HD makeup, silicon makeup (airbrush), celebrity makeup,. Basically she does all kinds of makeup but she is specialized in celebrity make up.   In Headlooks she had done both Men and women. She do beauty work, chemical work, basically all those things which a salon can cover. All her staff was well trained and experienced. All of them have a experience of more than 4-5 years in makeup industry. From the start of carries she was very clear about her experienced staff. She doesn’t like to work with inexperienced persons. So that she can give better service and repeat value to my clients. She had won many awards and accolades for her work as a celebrity makeup artist.   Honestly saying she had no idea that she could become a successful makeup artist in such a short span of time. She haven’t imagined in her dreams that she can open two salons in few years. This all happened because she has trusted my beliefs and followed her passion.
